The Principles That Guide Us

Because New Hope is made up of a diverse mix of people, it goes without saying that we all have slightly different values when it comes to how we go about serving Christ. There are some values, however, that are central to who we are. These are values we all share that both unify and define us. Our values are summarized in the following 10 statements:
Value One
We believe all people, regardless of their situation, background, or lifestyle, matter to God and ought to matter to the church. The concepts of love, compassion, and acceptance are central to who we are as a church. (Luke 5:27-32, Luke 15, Matthew 25:37-45, John 4, Romans 15:7)
Value Two
We believe that no one should do life alone. Genuine love and caring, authentic relationships draw people closer to God and are crucial to every aspect of life. These relationships can only flourish when we are transparent and willing to hold each other accountable. (Ephesians 4:3 & 4:25, 1 Corinthians 13, John 13:34-35, Hebrews 12:1)
Value Three
We believe that the church should be culturally relevant while remaining doctrinally pure. The message of Christ is unchanging, but the methods we use to communicate it must be sensitive to our culture and therefore constantly changing. (1 Corinthians 9:20-23)
Value Four

We believe that relevant, biblical teaching is a catalyst for transformation in individuals’ lives and in the church. We are committed to teach not simply for knowledge, but for life-change. (Proverbs 13:13-14, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Mark 1:22)

Value Five
We believe that the pursuit of full devotion to Christ and his cause is normal for every believer. Every Christian should commit to a lifestyle of consistent spiritual growth and genuine love for God and others. (Philippians 1:6, 1 Timothy 4:7-8, 1 Peter 2:2)
Value Six
We believe that God’s purposes for the church are best lived out in small groups. New Hope small groups are where people can grow spiritually, serve others, worship God, share Christ, and experience intimate community. (Luke 6:12-23, Acts 2:44-47)

Value Seven
We believe that every person has God-given talents and gifts and should use those talents and gifts to build up the church and serve others. People find their greatest joy and fulfillment when using their God-given gifts. Therefore, ministry is the privilege and responsibility of every Christian. (Ephesians 4, Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12 and 14)
Value Eight
We believe that churches should be led by godly men and women who are gifted for leadership. As these leaders steer the church in pursuit of its mission and vision, they should choose the role of servants, empowering others to do Christ’s work in and through the church. (Romans 12:8, Acts 6:2-5)

Value Nine
We believe that preserving unity in the church is the responsibility of every Christian. Gossip, negativity, and stirring up conflicts work against the spirit of Christ in the church. (Psalm 133:1, Proverbs 16:28, Ephesians 4:2-3, Romans 15:5-6, 1 Corinthians 1:10)

Value Ten
We believe that God is worthy of our very best. Though perfection can rarely be attained, we commit to doing our very best at all times and in all things. (Colossians 3:17, Malachi 1:6-14, 1 Kings 6)
